Judge Jan Satterfield of the 13th District Court, Division 1 in Kansas presides over a divorce hearing where a husband and wife remain divided over the value of their marital home and how the remaining assets and debts should be handled.
The husband argues that significant repair costs should be considered when determining the home's value and the amount of equity available for division. His side presents approximately $69,000 in repair estimates, while the wife's side argues that many of the problems were already present and should not be used to reduce her share of the home's equity.
The husband also seeks reimbursement for approximately $7,000 he says was paid toward the wife's vehicle using funds connected to his retirement account. The judge questions the legal basis for that claim and notes that the parties will need to address the issue more fully at trial.
While the parties have reached an agreement on their parenting plan and shared expenses, the major property issues remain unresolved. Judge Satterfield adopts the parenting provisions but reserves the remaining property disputes for trial, including the valuation of the marital residence.
