Samuel Taylor Coleridge's Christabel is a fine illustration of the way in which the aesthetic category of the sublime most naturally fits with a portrait of evil rather than, as per the Deists of the eighteenth century, with a sense of God.
For Coleridge, the portrait of evil is clearly alluding to Milton's portrait of Sin in Book 2 of Paradise Lost.
