 Westmount Shopping Centre in Edmonton is not closing permanently, but rather undergoing a multi-million dollar redevelopment by First Capital REIT to transform the indoor mall into an open-air, outdoor shopping complex. Project Details The Plan: Much of the enclosed middle section and former second-floor movie theatre space are being torn down and rebuilt into an open-air breezeway called "The Porch". Timeline: Construction began in spring 2026 and is expected to take 18 to 24 months, targeting completion around 2028. Store Access: Interior-facing businesses are shifting to exterior-facing access, and the west parking lot is being expanded.
