Tim Conway's Story Got Stranger Every Time He Told It

Tim Conway on Johnny Carson was never predictable. Across seven interviews from 1979 to 2013, Tim Conway told some of the same hilarious stories again and again — but every time, something changed. Johnny Carson heard many of them first. From the mysterious network executive who kept telling Tim to stop, to his wild years in Cleveland with Ernie Anderson, his constantly changing movie stories with Don Knotts, the cheapest airline flight imaginable, and the horse that nearly cost Harvey Korman a fortune — every retelling became a little bigger, stranger, and funnier. In this video, we line up Tim Conway’s appearances with Johnny Carson, David Letterman, Larry King, Conan O’Brien and Harvey Korman to see exactly how his stories evolved over more than three decades. Was Tim Conway making it all up? Not exactly. The details changed. The punchlines grew. But underneath every version, the same basic story somehow remained. We also revisit the legendary friendship between Tim Conway and Harvey Korman, the famous Dentist sketch, Tim’s Cleveland television days, Dorf, Hail Columbus, and the stories that could make even Johnny Carson lose track of what was real. No sketches. No countdown. Just Tim Conway telling stories the way only Tim Conway could.
