Immobiliser is an anti-theft system, an electronic security device fitted to a vehicle that prevents the engine from running unless the correct key (transponder or smart key) is present. If a thief attempted to steal the car by using an incorrect key, the immobiliser would activate and prevent the ECU from receiving the code, resulting your engine won't start at all. Immobilizers are considered to be effective anti-theft devices all across the globe. Pros and cons of immobilizers: Pros: The most important advantage of the immobilizer can be considered its direct purpose - making it impossible to steal a car. Traditional alarms only provide an opportunity to learn about such an attempt, and you will have to react yourself. The difference is obvious, because it is one thing to lose the entire car, and a completely different situation when all that remains is to restore a broken door or ignition lock, etc. Most immobilizer models have a built-in function to automatically turn on the blocking, when the owner does not perform any action for a given amount of time: does not open or close the doors, does not use any electronic devices inside the car, and does not start the engine. This feature is very good for forgetful owners. One of the advantages of immobilizers is that there are no batteries in the transponders, they work in passive mode. This gives a huge advantage over traditional alarms with their eternal problem in the form of unexpectedly dead batteries. Cons: If we talk about the disadvantages of immobilizers, then, like any other electronic circuit, failures can appear in them. For example, non-contact models can be sensitive to radiation from mobile phones or other devices. The way out of the situation, of course, is simple - it is enough to move the telephone set away from the key and the central unit and the problem will be eliminated.
