2007.04.25 Yuzuru Hanyu competing at Mladost Trophy (Eng sub)

Apr 25-28, 2007 - 13th Mladost Trophy at Zagreb, Croatia Novice Boys Result: 1st Place At the Mladost Trophy, Yuzu performed “Sing, Sing, Sing” for the first time and won gold. It was the first-ever program Nanami Abe choreographed for him, prepared specifically for this competition (later switched to the SP). This footage of his main practice at Bell Sunpia is probably the last before he returned to Ice Rink Sendai, presumably filmed in March (IRS reopened on March 22). From Nanami Abe: “Sing, Sing, Sing,” which we prepared for the junior international competition Mladost Trophy (Croatia) in April 2007, was the first program I choreographed for him. It’s one of those pieces long used for footwork practice. He always performed it with such enthusiasm and groove, and you could tell he genuinely loved the music, which was why I chose it. There’s a number in the FOSSE Broadway musical where a large group of dancers performs to that song. I used it as a reference. I kept thinking about how to make this tiny, slender boy appear mature and masculine and yet, in a way, still charmingly cute. I remember having him wear a pink shirt and adding a gesture where he sharply tightened his tie, like, “I’m heading out into the city nightlife now.” He won the competition. For competitions, he wore a white shirt, but he also used it for exhibitions later, where he wore a pink shirt. P.S. No full footage of his performances from this competition available online.
