👑 KING OYO’S FINAL BURIAL | EMOTIONAL MOMENT AT THE ROYAL TOMBS Today, Tooro Kingdom witnessed the final farewell and burial of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV at the Karambi Royal Tombs in Fort Portal. After the emotional funeral prayers and service at St. John’s Cathedral, mourners followed the procession as King Oyo was taken to his final resting place. One of the most emotional moments came at the royal tombs, where strict traditional customs and royal burial protocols were observed. Access to the tomb area was restricted as the traditional burial rites were carried out. According to accounts from the burial, Queen Mother Best Kemigisa wanted to enter the royal tombs, but she was stopped as the traditional customs surrounding the burial were followed. The emotional moment left many mourners wondering about the customs and protocols governing royal burials in Tooro. King Oyo was eventually laid to rest among the royal ancestors at Karambi Royal Tombs. During the traditional rites, the successor also took part in the ceremony by casting nine coffee berries into the grave. King Oyo became Omukama of Tooro at just three years old in 1995 and went on to become one of Uganda’s most recognised traditional kings. His death at the age of 34 brought together thousands of mourners, royal family members, cultural leaders and government officials. His burial also comes at a time of intense discussion surrounding the future of the Tooro throne, including questions about succession and claims concerning a previously undisclosed son. In this video, we bring you the emotional moments from King Oyo’s final journey — from the prayers at St. John’s Cathedral, the procession to Karambi, the royal burial customs, the Queen Mother’s emotional moment, and the final burial of the beloved King. 👑 MAY THE SOUL OF KING OYO REST IN PEACE.
