Ustad Ali Akbar Khan (Sarod) – Raaga Kafi (Live at Utsav-73, Bhopal)

Experience a rare, archival gem of Hindustani classical music featuring the legendary Swara Samrat, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, performing Raga Kafi on the sarod. Recorded live in April 1973 at the Utsav festival in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, this recital is a masterclass in the profound, emotive depths of the instrument. About the Raaga: Raaga Kafi is a late-evening raga traditionally known for its deeply expressive, romantic, and semi-classical (Thumri-ang) character. In this performance, Khansahib utilizes the microtonal nuances of the Maihar Gharana to turn a familiar scale into a profound, meditative exploration, shifting masterfully from soulful expansion to intense, rhythmic brilliance. Historical Context: This recording originates from Volume III of the legendary "Utsav-73" festival archives. While institutional metadata logs omit the explicit billing of the accompanying tabla maestro for this specific volume, the phrasing and powerful dialogue perfectly match the elite festival alignment of the era.
