Colonel By Lake Kingston.

Colonel By Lake is part of the Rideau Canal waterway just north of Kingston, and it’s named after Lieutenant-Colonel John By, the Royal Engineers officer who oversaw the canal’s construction (1826-1832). The canal linked Kingston on Lake Ontario to Ottawa, originally as a military supply route in case of renewed conflict with the United States. The Rideau Canal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
