We tackle the 'invigorating' wind on the 7.4km Pariwhero Red Rocks Coastal Walk from Ōwhiro Bay (at the entrance to Te Kopahou Reserve). The rocks are an iron rich outcrop of ancient volcanic pillow lava and the Scientific Reserve was created in 1972.
Wellington’s south coast is aptly described as rugged and, on this Saturday, is popular with walkers, divers and 4WD enthusiasts. Go on a Sunday when it is closed to vehicles!
I see a couple of kakano seals, and, on such a clear day, it is easy to spot the Kaikoura Ranges but not so easy to film them on my little camera.
