Before cutting into the unknown, Lord Krishna told the Pandavas that before going to the unknown house, you should search for a secluded place and worship Lord Shiva Shankar Ji there. Then the Padavans came to these hills, following the instructions of Lord Krishna, looking for the deserted place. Here Pandavas and Draupadi worshiped Lord Shiva Shankar. Pleased with the puja, Lord Shiva Shankar Ji appeared to him and gave a boon, giving him a boon that in future, whoever does worship here with true mind and reverence will get his wish fulfilled. After this, the Pandavas and Draupadi disguised themselves to start anonymity and worked in the court of King Virat in Dasuha city (then known as Virat Nagari). On each full moon day during his unknown stay, one of the Pandavas disguised and came to this hill and worshiped Lord Shiva. The history of this temple is also related to the time of Kali Yuga. It is said that during the Kali Yuga, when a king of Himachal was passing through the hill from here, he saw something on the hill and when the king went up the hill, he saw the holy Shivling there. There was no children in the king's house, the king worshiped here and asked for the boon of Aulad that if there is any child in his house, he will come here on the day of Poornamasi and perform Havan Yagna. After some time a girl was born in the king's house. Then the king after coming to this place performed Havan Yagna and named the girl Gagan. Since then the place became famous as "Gagan Ji Ka Tila". Gagan ji ka tilla one of the most oldest Shiv Mandir in Punjab which is recently get awarded by due to its height amongst the all Temple in Punjab is more, More than 750 stairs and One of big event called "Mahashivratri Fair" and mostly famous by people belief and comes from many other places for their good health and to fullfill their wishes मन्दिर का इतिहास गगन जी का टीला का इतिहास पांडवों से जुड़ा हुआ है । अज्ञातवास काटने से पहले भगवान श्री कृष्ण ने पांडवों से कहा कि अज्ञातवास में जाने से पहले तुम किसी सुनसान जगह की तलाश कर वहाँ पर भगवान शिव शंकर जी की पूजा - अर्चना करना । तब पाडंव भगवान श्री कृष्ण की बताई बात पर अमल करते हुए , सुनसान जगह की तलाश करते - करते इन पहाड़ियों पर पहुंचे । यहां पांडवों और द्रोपदी ने भगवान शिव शंकर जी की पूजा की । पूजा से खुश होकर भगवान शिव शंकर जी ने उन्हें दर्शन दिए और एक शिवलिंग देकर वरदान दिया कि भविष्य में जो यहाँ पर सच्चे मन और श्रद्धा से पूजा - अर्चना करेगा उसकी इच्छा पूरी होगी । उसके बाद पांडवों और द्रोपदी ने अज्ञातवास शुरू करने के लिए भेस बदल कर दसूहा शहर ( जिसे उस समय विराट नगरी के नाम से जाना जाता था ) में राजा विराट के दरबार में नौकरी की । अपने अज्ञातवास के दौरान प्रत्येक पूर्णमासी के दिन पांडवों में से कोई न कोई भेस बदल कर इस पहाड़ी पर आकर भगवान शिव की पूजा करता था । इस मंदिर का इतिहास कलियुग के समय से भी जुड़ा हुआ है । कहते हैं कि कलियुग के समय में हिमाचल का एक राजा जब यहाँ से पहाड़ी के नीचे से गुज़र रहा था तो उसे पहाड़ी पर कुछ दिखाई दिया और राजा ने पहाड़ी के ऊपर जा कर देखा तो उसे वहाँ पर पवित्र शिवलिंग दिखाई दिया । राजा के घर कोई औलाद नहीं थी , राजा ने यहाँ पूजा करके औलाद का वरदान माँगा कि यदि उसके घर कोई औलाद हो जाए तो वह पूर्णमासी के दिन यहाँ आ कर हवन यज्ञ करवाएगा । कुछ समय के पश्चात् राजा के घर एक लड़की ने जन्म लिया । तब राजा ने इस स्थान पर आ कर हवन यज्ञ करवाने के पश्चात् लड़की का नाम गगन रखा । तब से यह स्थान " गगन जी का टीला " के नाम से मशहूर हो गया ।
