Victory Goal was the first entry in SEGA’s long-running SEGA Worldwide Soccer / Victory Goal series of arcade-style football games with the Worldwide Soccer name lasting until 2009. The period from 2005 to 2009 served as a crossover era for the franchise, with Worldwide Soccer title used in the United States for the Football Manager series. eventually being dropped for the Football Manager title in 2009. Unlike Sega International Victory Goal, which also released in 1995, Victory Goal was a club football-focused game released exclusively in Japan, where it also went by the title J. League Victory Goal.
