https://www.sierranevada.cc for all the routes and stuff (unpaid advertisement) A few months ago, Grant, Dan, Joel and I went to the Sierra Nevada in southern Spain with a very sophisticated plan: ride bikes, eat, sleep, repeat. Somehow that turned into around 19 hours of riding in four days. I posted bits of the trip at the time, but there were a couple of rides I never really showed — and I never properly talked about the place itself either. Which is a shame, because the area around Vélez de Benaudalla might be one of the most underrated places I’ve ridden in Europe. Long climbs, ridiculously quiet roads, proper mountains and a completely different feeling to the usual Mallorca/Girona cycling trip. Cycle Sierra Nevada has a whole library of routes starting from the area, including everything from shorter loops to 100 km+ mountain days.
