Exciting Drum Solo Duet Ken Loomer U.S.A. Kosuke Takaoka Japan

One of the best young drummers I know is Kosuke Takaoka from Japan. He came to visit me at my home in Florida this summer. All drummers should check out Kosuke excellent youtube channel    / mrcrazygasmaskman   where he breaks down how the great drummers of the past played like Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Max Roach, and Sonny Payne did in detail. His talent to transcribe these great jazz drummers of the past is amazing. In this video, we did what Buddy Rich and Max Roach did on their recording of a song called "Figure Eights" from the 1959 album Rich versus Roach. We traded 8 bars of drumming between us to start off this drum duet. Then we added more bars of drum solo breaks to make this an exciting drum duet for sure! Kosuke is playing on my 1970 Buddy Rich Slingerland drum set with the 24 inch bass drum, 9x13 tom, two 16x16 floor toms and the rare 4x14 BR model Slingerland snare drum. I`m playing on my Pearl Masters drums with the big 24 inch bass drum, 9x13 tom, two 16x16 floor toms, 5.5x14 snare drum, a side 5x12 Pearl Sensitone brass snare drum, plus two side toms 9x12 and a 8x10. This was an exciting and fun drum solo duet to do. With the type of drumming technique we have learned, you can hear how it`s possible to come up with some interesting drumming. We push each other to play the best we can in a fun way. This was part one of our drum duet Kosuke and I did that day. To hear part two of our drum duet, here is the link    • Epic Drum Solo Duet  Ken Loomer (USA) Kosu...   What a special day it was to play this drum duet with this master young drummer Kosuke Takaoka. Kosuke is in his 20`s and I`m in my 70`s, but we both have the same love of drumming that will be with us forever.
