Livelihood Grants Transform Lives and Create Stability in Abyan, Yemen

Across Yemen, conflict, economic hardship, and limited livelihood opportunities have left 18.3 million people struggling to meet their basic needs. To help communities recover and strengthen their resilience, CARE, with funding from the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) through the BRIGHTLY Consortium, supported 396 women and men in Khanfar and Ahwar districts of Abyan Governorate with entrepreneurship training, business planning, start-up grants, and ongoing coaching to help them build sustainable livelihoods. One of those participants is Mohammed from Ahwar district. Before joining the programme, he relied on irregular daily wage work and often struggled to provide enough food and essentials for his family. After receiving business development training and a start-up grant, he invested in livestock trading, generating income that enabled him to expand his activities, purchase a motorcycle for transport services, and repair his donkey cart to support his livelihood.
