After DAY 1 and DAY 2, DAY 3+4 takes us over Shiretoko Pass, the biggest mountain stage of the entire ride, before finishing at Cape Nosappu, the easternmost point of Hokkaido. DAY 3 starts at Roadside Station Ryuhyo Kaido Abashiri. We ride toward Shiretoko Pass through light rain and fog. But as we descend toward Rausu on the eastern side of the pass, the weather suddenly clears and we are greeted by beautiful blue skies. With a strong tailwind, we make good progress toward Atsutoko. Then, after turning east toward Cape Nosappu, the wind changes to a crosswind and eventually a headwind. Despite the difficult final section, we reach Cape Nosappu with a beautiful sunset behind us. After three consecutive days of cycling, we finally complete the 857 km long-distance ride. After reaching the finish, we return to Nemuro, take a bath at Minato-yu, and celebrate with Escalope and Oriental Rice at Dorian. We then drive to the Azechi Cape parking area and sleep in the N-VAN. DAY 4 is the day after the long-distance ride. We enjoy sunrise and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean at Azechi Cape, followed by the dramatic scenery at Namida Cape. In Akkeshi, we enjoy fresh oysters at A-Uroko. Then we stop at Nebenfluss in Beppo, Kushiro, for steak and Escalope. After relaxing at Bansho Hot Spring, we enjoy curry at Curry & Naan Odisha in Shizunai. Finally, we begin the long drive home, covering approximately 650 km from Akkeshi to our home. Over these four days, our N-VAN travels more than 2,000 km in total. Our original goal was to complete the route from Cape Erimo to Shiretoko Pass and then to Cape Soya. Once again, we were unable to complete that original route. However, we successfully completed three consecutive days and 857 km of long-distance cycling. Next year, we hope to finally complete Cape Erimo → Shiretoko Pass → Cape Soya.
