The Oldest Still Operating McDONALD'S IN THE WORLD - Downey, California Los Angeles!

To kids growing up in the 70s and early 80s, McDonald's was kind of a big deal. The TV ads with the McDonaldland characters, the 45 rpm record with the Big Mac song that we all tried to memorize, the advent of Chicken Nuggets and the Happy Meal, the Christmas time gift certificates that every kid loved to find in out stockings. It stayed in vogue for a while, through high school, when seniors would get in their cars and skip the first class of the day to drive a couple of towns away to get Egg McMuffins and hash browns instead. While I veered away from the Golden Arches for a good couple of decades, I've come back around to enjoying a double cheeseburger now and then, so it was great visiting the World's Oldest Still Operating McDonald's in Downey, CA. This was my first time seeing a classic original-design McD's structure and it didn't disappoint. And I especially enjoyed the little museum set aside in a separate seating area just a few feet from the kitchens. McD's prices may have jumped significantly in the last few years (and how!) but this was a very nice spot to sit, hide from the rain and get nostalgic for years of youth and years even far past my own time. High recommendation!
