Allow at least half a day for each. If you want to take the elevator up the Washington Monument, you can either try to book a ticket online in advance (for the nominal price of $1) or try to get free same-day tickets at the ticket booth near the Washington Monument. Please note, the Washington Monument is run by the National Park Service. If you are an American citizen, you can get a tour of the White House, but you must book it several months in advance.
