Hexagonal Thinking with Vocabulary

In this video, Tara's second graders are learning to connect new academic vocabulary to previously learned vocabulary. Students recently finished a unit exploring plants and pollinators, and are now beginning a new unit where they will learn to write and discuss opinions. Using the model of EL Education's Vocabulary Dominoes protocol, students instead use hexagons to connect words and ideas, reviewing vocabulary and content learning AND practicing oracy at the same time.
