She came for water at noon to avoid the other women. A Jewish man broke every custom by asking her for a drink, offered her living water, and told her about her five husbands without condemning her. He told her plainly that He was the Messiah. She left her jar and ran to tell the town. Where Jesus is in this story: "Whoever drinks the water I give will never thirst again." ▶ Hear the whole journey, in order, from the people who lived it: https://unwrittenpsalms.com Scripture: John 4:1–42 Song 43 of 54 in The Unwritten Psalms, the story of the Bible sung by the people who lived it. Listen to their stories. Find yourself in them. Find Jesus in every one. LYRICS I went to get my water in the middle of the day, when the sun was hot enough to keep the other women away. They go together in the morning, laughing in a line, and it all goes quiet when I come, so I go on my own time. There was a Man sat by the well, and He wasn't from around here. His people don't drink after mine. His people don't come near. He said, "Will you give Me a drink?" I nearly dropped the rope. "You know what I am, and You're asking me?" He smiled like He knew a joke. He said, "If you knew who was asking, you'd be the one to ask, and I'd give you living water, the kind of water that lasts. Whoever drinks from this well is gonna thirst again, but the water that I give turns into a spring that never ends." He said, "Go call your husband." I said, "I don't have one." He said, "You're right. You've had five, and the man you're with now isn't one." He didn't raise His voice. He didn't look away. He said it like He'd always known, and still He chose to stay. He told me everything I ever did, every door I closed, every name I hid, every man who left, every lie I lived, and He still asked me for a drink. He knew the worst of me, and He didn't leave. He told me everything I ever did, and He still asked me for a drink. I tried to change the subject: "Which mountain's the right one to pray?" He said, "It's not about the mountain. God wants honest hearts, not a place." I said, "Someone's coming who'll explain it all someday." He looked at me and said, "I'm Him. The One who's talking to you today." I left my jar there at the well. I forgot what I came for. I ran into the town I'd hid from, knocking on every door: "Come see a Man who told me everything I ever did!" And the ones who used to whisper followed me out there to Him. He told me everything I ever did, every door I closed, every name I hid, every man who left, every lie I lived, and He still asked me for a drink. He knew the worst of me, and He didn't leave. He told me everything I ever did, and He still asked me for a drink. Maybe you go out when nobody's around, so nobody sees you, so nobody knows. Maybe you've been drinking from every well in town, and you're thirstier than ever, and your bucket's running low. He already knows it all, and He's not going anywhere. He's sitting at the well at noon, just waiting for you there. He knows everything you ever did, every door you closed, every name you hid, every one who left, every lie you lived, and He's still offering you a drink. He knows the worst of you, and He's staying too. He knows everything you ever did, and He's still offering you a drink. Leave the jar. Come see a Man. Come and drink. #TheUnwrittenPsalms #BibleSongs #TheWomanAtTheWell
