Writer-translator Dylan Cheung joins us to discuss the life and career of Maggie Cheung as part of our cinema program ‘In the Mood for Maggie Cheung’, exploring her place in the wider context of Hong Kong and its rich cinematic heritage. Maggie Cheung Man-yuk emerged as one of Hong Kong’s most beloved stars at the height of the city’s prosperity in the 1980s. In two short decades, she became not just one of Chinese-language cinema’s greatest actors, but also one of the world’s most enduring and enigmatic screen presences. Dylan Cheung is a writer and translator with a focus on Sinophone and East Asian cinema, especially from Hong Kong. He is based in Sydney, Australia on Gadigal land.
