Jonathan Winters’ FUNNIEST Moments Johnny Carson Couldn't Control

Jonathan Winters’ funniest moments with Johnny Carson were never just jokes — they were masterclasses in improvisation. Give Jonathan Winters one small question, and within seconds Johnny Carson could find himself sitting across from an entirely new character. In this video, we revisit some of Jonathan Winters’ FUNNIEST moments on The Tonight Show and beyond — from shutting off the heat instead of turning it down, to a 25-cent dog, a childhood ledger of tiny wages, an impossible fishing trip, Tim Conway losing control of a locker-room sketch, and Dean Martin trapped beside characters only Jonathan Winters could invent. What made Jonathan Winters so different? No script. No cue cards. No obvious setup. Yet every strange character seemed to know exactly where he came from, what he wanted — and even how much money he had in his pocket. Watch closely as Johnny Carson, Tim Conway, and Dean Martin gradually stop trying to control the conversation and simply let Jonathan Winters go. Was Jonathan Winters inventing these people from nothing… or was every one of them somehow a piece of Jonathan himself?
