Despite there being other battling locales around the city of Frontier shown in the opening cutscene, what we have here for Regulation M-C is a remodeling of the Battle Arena: the entrances into the battling area have these green zigzagging structures with a differently-designed light-up broken sphere, the whole place has a golden light to it rather than blue, and the LED panels lining the walls have different patterns. I wonder if this means they wanted a different background, but this was the best they could do with the resources they had. Seems this is one of the few Hydreigon without a Choice Scarf though. (Or a Focus Sash.) That being said, I did also make the mistake of using Sludge Bomb instead of Strength Sap: I thought it was going to use Quiver Dance, but I think opponents are more savvcy of Innards Out than durings the first few seasons. 03:32 - Battle #2 Type: Single Battle Opponent: ちか (Chika) Battle Court: Battle Arena Music: Team Flare My Pokémon: Forrest (Forretress, Victoria (Victreebel), Rex (Tyrantrum) Opponent’s Pokémon: Aegislash, Greninja, Baxcalibur Baxcalibur is a fearsome Pokémon added to Champions with an equaly fearsome new Mega Evolution, who keeps Thermal Exchange, making it an Ice-type who takes no damage from Fire moves and instead gets a boost to its incredible 175 Attack. But it’s Greninja who Mega Evolved here, and one I figured would have Ice Beam. This time, Rex (Tyrantrum) WAS at full HP, ready to use a Focus Sash, and ready to hit with a super-effective Rock-type move knowing Mega Greninja’s Protean would change her type to Ice (one of the 1-in-8 female Greninja). Then there was the Freeze from that Ice Beam. Also, it’s hard for me to figure out which theme is Team Flare, Team Flare Nouveau, and Lysandre’s X & Y theme, because they all have the same melody and open in similar ways. 07:50 - Battle #3 Type: Single Battle Opponent: TeaMiz Battle Court: Battle Arena Music: Trainer (HeartGold & SoulSilver My Pokémon: Dolores (Basculegion) (Female), Samantha (Toucannon), Victoria (Victreebel) Opponent’s Pokémon: Inteleon, Charizard, Meowscarada My opponent picked all first-partner Pokémon, with one between Grass, Fire, and Water (but not in that order by appearance). You’ll also get to see Samantha’s (Toucannon’s) change in hold item to the Rocky Helmet, to further punish anyone who uses a contact move on her (and Meowscarada specializes in contact moves…except for its signature Flower Trick, which is not a good idea against a Toucannon). While I can’t see it too well because of Basculegion’s shape, I do remember that in Sword and Shield, and in Scarlet and Violet, Inteleon aims for the head rather than the center, uniquely among all Pokémon species. Can anyone confirm if the same holds true for Pokémon Champions? 11:02 - Battle #4 Type: Single Battle Opponent: K Battle Court: Battle Arena Music: Trainer (Scarlet & Violet) My Pokémon: Dolores (Basculegion) (Female), Forrest (Forretress), Victoria (Victreebel) Opponent’s Pokémon: Charizard, Gengar, Sneasler The Perish Song scheme is the most common one I see for Gengar, but there are a lot of them out there. Here is a Destiny Bond one—I’m guessing this one had a Focus Sash to better ensure that Gengar gets a chance to get Destiny Bond out. Of course, this Basculegion is not like other Basculegion out there, and I’m sure it throws people off when they see moves like Agility and Shadow Ball. (Also, the recording for this match had the audio nearly a second ahead out of synch. I have repaired it the way I did with my Rhythm Heaven Groove videos.) 15:16 - Battle #5 Type: Single Battle Opponent: くとぅるふ (Kuturufu) Battle Court: Battle Arena Music: Trainer (Red, Blue, Green, & Yellow) My Pokémon: Shirley (Meowstic), Dolores (Basculegion) (Female), Samantha (Toucannon) Opponent’s Pokémon: Delphox, ライオン (Lion) (Hippowdon), ワカサギ (Wakasagi) (Basculegion) (Male) And finally, if you miss her, here’s Shirley (Meowstic). Even I would like if Mega Meowstic got a better Ability, but my guess was that this was meant to be anti-Intimidate, boosting Sp. Attack through Competitive and sending it back with Trace. My opponent had a 6-win streak though, tearing up the ranks within the first 48 hours of this season. Of course, it’s best not to take me lightly either, because they can see I accrued a 3-win streak of my own.
