I Made My Dream Bible… Then Felt Too Overwhelmed to Use It 😭 | So I Started Smaller 📖

I spent HOURS creating what I thought would be my dream Bible for starting my Bible reading journey in September… and then when it was finally time to use it, I felt completely overwhelmed. 😭📖 If you watched my Loaded Bible series, you’ll know I prepared a big interleaved Bible with all that extra space for studying, notes, journaling and everything I thought I should be doing. My plan was to start reading through the Bible in September, around my birthday, instead of waiting for the usual January “Bible in a Year” start. September 1st came… and I didn’t even start. The Bible was beautiful, but all of those blank pages suddenly felt like pressure. I didn’t know what I was supposed to write. I felt like I needed to take loads of notes, study everything properly and somehow make use of all that space. And instead of encouraging me to read my Bible, it was actually making me avoid opening it. So on September 2nd, I decided to forget about doing it perfectly and start smaller. 🤍 I went back to my older NIV Wide Margin Bible, picked up my reading plan and started doing something much simpler: Read. Highlight what stands out. Keep going. No forcing myself to fill pages with notes. No making myself journal about every chapter. If there’s something I genuinely want to write down, I will — but otherwise, I’m allowing myself to simply read and highlight. I’m following a reading challenge that takes me through different parts of the Bible rather than reading straight from Genesis to Revelation, and although I’d love to eventually read the entire Bible, I’m also trying not to put pressure on myself to finish it within exactly one year. In this video I’m talking about what happened with my “dream Bible,” why I felt so overwhelmed, what I’m doing differently now and showing you how my first few days of simply reading and highlighting have been going. Maybe I’ll go back to my interleaved Bible when I’m ready for deeper study.
