Bonalu is a traditional Hindu festival celebrated in Telangana, especially in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It is dedicated to Goddess Mahakali. Women offer cooked rice, jaggery, curd, and neem leaves in decorated pots (called Bonam) to the goddess. They dress in colorful sarees and carry the pots on their heads with devotion. The festival includes special prayers, music, dance, and processions. Bonalu is celebrated to thank Goddess Mahakali for protecting people from diseases and evil. Long ago, people in Telangana believed that the goddess saved them from a deadly disease (like plague). So, they started offering her food and praying for good health, safety, and happiness. Since then, every year during the Ashada month (June–July), people celebrate Bonalu with devotion to show their love and gratitude to the goddess. While, Pothurajulu are strong men who dress up in colorful clothes, apply turmeric on their bodies, wear garlands, and dance with whips and sticks. They are considered the protectors of the goddess during the Bonalu festival. According to tradition, they come in front of the procession and clear the way for the goddess. Their energetic dance shows power and devotion. People believe Pothurajulu help drive away evil spirits and protect the devotees and the temple during the celebrations. So, Pothurajulu play an important role in the Bonalu festival as guardians and devotees of Goddess Mahakali. #bonalu #bonalu2025 #bonaluvlog #bonalupotharajudance #pothuraju #pothurajudance #amberpet #amberpetmahankalitemple #jaathara #mallannapothuraju #telangana #festival #hyderabad #hyderabadi #vlog
