Stop Waiting for Confidence. Discover Why CONVICTION May Be What You Need to Take Action. #confidence #brainscience #drshawneduperon
In this episode of Say This Instead, we explore why you don’t always have to feel completely confident before taking meaningful action.
What if confidence isn’t what you need before you speak up, take a risk, or have a difficult conversation?
There’s a powerful distinction between confidence and conviction.
Confidence says, “I believe I can do this.”
Conviction says, “I believe this needs to be done.”
🔹Joan of Arc offers a compelling historical example. At approximately 17 years old, without formal military training or political power, she influenced leaders and soldiers through an extraordinary level of conviction. Her story provides an interesting lens for understanding what can happen when we stop waiting to feel ready and start acting on what matters.
✔️In this episode, we explore the brain science and communication psychology behind:
• Confidence and conviction
• Self-doubt and social risk
• Why your brain questions you when the stakes get higher
• How fear of judgment can affect communication
• How conviction can shift your attention from “How am I going to be perceived?” to “What matters here?”
• Why strong conviction still requires curiosity, critical thinking, and openness to new information
You’ll also learn practical phrases you can use when confidence isn’t showing up:
1.“I don’t need to feel confident to say what I believe matters.”
2. “I feel strongly about this, and I’m willing to hear what I may be missing.”
3. “I believe enough in what matters to take the next step.”
🔹Because you don’t always need confidence before you take action.
👉Sometimes, conviction is enough to get you moving.
