We caught fresh mahi for dinner in the Florida Keys-then made a 25-mile boat run to scuba dive Alligator Reef Lighthouse! This Florida Keys catch-and-cook adventure combines offshore mahi fishing, reef snorkeling, scuba diving and an unforgettable family meal in Marathon, Florida. This is Part 1 of our seven-day Florida Keys family adventure. We brought a Stingray 26CC to our waterfront rental in Marathon and set out searching for mahi mahi offshore. After spotting birds working over bait, we finally found the fish and caught exactly what we needed for dinner. The following day, we used our Simrad C-MAP charts to locate some of the Florida Keys’ most beautiful reefs. We started by snorkeling Coffins Patch Reef, a shallow, family-friendly reef filled with tropical fish. When the weather improved, Chrissy and I made the 25-mile run to the famous Alligator Reef Lighthouse for our first successful scuba dive together. Back at the dock, our fresh Florida Keys catch became blackened mahi tacos. We also prepared homemade lobster ceviche, guacamole and a complete catch-and-cook dinner for the family.
