Round 2 of the 2026 U.S. Women’s Chess Championship, International Master Alice Lee faced Women’s Grandmaster Jennifer Yu in a fascinating classical chess encounter.
Playing Black, Alice Lee faced early pressure as Jennifer Yu’s knight penetrated deep into her position. But Lee refused to back down!
The turning point came with Rook take Bishop on e3!, when Lee sacrificed her rook for White’s bishop, creating dangerous counterplay. She then advanced her passed d-pawn deep into White’s territory, forcing Yu to spend precious time finding defensive moves.
With the clock ticking down, the pressure intensified. Yu eventually stopped the pawn from promoting, but Lee’s active pieces and persistent pressure helped her convert the advantage into a winning endgame.
The game ended with Alice Lee claiming the full point after 51…Bd4, completing an impressive comeback in Round 2.
