Juan Geck turns displacement, identity and the search for belonging into an atmospheric pop statement with HIGH TIDE — 21st August 2026
Released 21 August 2026, German-Filipino singer, songwriter and performer Juan Geck enters a new chapter as an independent artist with HIGH TIDE, an emotionally driven pop track about feeling lost beneath the surface while searching for a place to belong.
The song began as a deeply personal reflection on Juan’s experience growing up between two cultures. Half Filipino and half German, he describes the feeling of never completely belonging to either side: in Germany, not necessarily being perceived as German, while also not looking traditionally Filipino within the Filipino community.
Rather than telling that story literally, Juan turned to the ocean as a metaphor.
“I started thinking about a whale travelling through the ocean without a family or a pod, just swimming without knowing exactly where it was going. That became a metaphor for how I felt — being somewhere between worlds and searching for where I belonged.”
That original idea developed into HIGH TIDE, but during the songwriting process the track began to take on a life of its own. What started as a song about mixed identity evolved into something much more universal.
The lyrics move through uncertainty and isolation:
“Dive into darkness
Don’t know where my heart is
Undefined”
before gradually shifting towards movement, freedom and hope:
“I’m done with complying
My freedom awaits”
At the centre of the song is the image of the high tide — something powerful and uncontrollable that can carry you forward when you no longer know which direction to take.
“So close to the surface / But still miles away” captures the feeling of being close to finding clarity while still feeling completely lost.
For Juan, the ocean can represent many different experiences. HIGH TIDE can be heard as a song about identity and belonging, but also about anxiety, depression, leaving a toxic relationship, feeling trapped by expectations or simply reaching a point where you decide to stop fighting against yourself.
“I think the song became bigger than what I originally intended it to be. It started with my own experience of not belonging, but now I can hear different stories in it. Everyone has their own version of feeling like they’re somewhere beneath the surface.”
The production reflects that journey, beginning in a more intimate and uncertain space before expanding into a powerful, cinematic pop sound. The contrast mirrors the movement of the lyrics: from darkness and uncertainty towards release and freedom.
HIGH TIDE marks the beginning of a new chapter for Juan Geck as an independent artist and songwriter. Rather than defining exactly what the song should mean, Juan leaves space for listeners to find their own interpretation within it.
“At its heart, HIGH TIDE is about not knowing where you belong, but realizing that being lost doesn’t mean you have no direction. Sometimes you have to let the current carry you somewhere new.”
The release is the first in a series of new music from Juan, followed by BASS on 11 September and ON MY MIND on 23 October 2026, establishing a new phase of his artistic identity and sound.
With HIGH TIDE, Juan Geck transforms a deeply personal experience of displacement into a universal story about identity, resilience, freedom and finding your way back to the surface.
