We explore Khiva, Uzbekistan, one of the most atmospheric stops on the ancient Silk Road.
We head into the old city and wander the narrow streets and hidden courtyards, and take in some of Khiva’s most famous sights.
The unmistakable Kalta Minor.
The beautiful Pahlavon Mahmud Mausoleum.
The incredible Juma Mosque with its forest of carved wooden columns.
Along the way we discover quiet gardens, traditional architecture, a yurt, local food and even have a go at making fresh Uzbek noodles by hand.
We dare to walk along the northern city walls, before climbing to the Ak Sheikh Bobo Watchtower for some of the best views across Khiva.
Khiva was easily one of the highlights of our Uzbekistan trip — peaceful, historic and full of character.
