Inside the life of a young jobseeker | BBC News India

India has the world’s largest youth population of 367 million people between the age of 15 to 29, accounting for a third of the country’s working age population. Of them, 263 million are not in education and constitute the potential workforce. According to the government's latest Periodic Labour Force Survey by the National Statistics office, unemployment rate among this group is 15.9% in the quarter of April to June 2026, marginally higher from the 15% in the previous quarter of January to March 2026. Furthermore, according to the State of Working India 2026 - by Azim Premji University, the unemployment among graduates is much worse, standing at nearly 40% for those aged 15 to 25, and 20% for those aged 25 to 29. To understand what this means for young people, we follow Abhi, a graduate from Uttar Pradesh, as he navigates interviews, rejections, and the everyday reality of job hunting in Noida.
