Tank Engines Star at the 'Mid Hants Railway Spring Steam Gala' | May 1st 2021

As we begin to see Steam Railways start up across the country after the second wave of Covid closure, steam galas are becoming a regular part of our calendar again. Following in the footsteps of the Severn Valley Railway, the Mid-Hants Railway / Watercress line held a spring steam up style event over the weekend of the 30th of April to the 3rd of May. With two GWR tank engines, Small Prairie 5526 & Pannier 4612, staring as the guests for the event, it was quite a lively days action on Saturday the 1st. With the home fleet also in action to support, there were set full length sets operating the length of the line, as well as a local set between Alresford and Ropley. This gave plenty of variety throughout the day, and combined with some of the on the spot adjustments made for a classic feel to the whole Gala. The weather held on through the day only having a few drops of rain in the middle of the day, but it paved the way for an enjoyable day of steam working hard through the Hampshire hills once again.
