Martín Becerra, compositor, cantante, radio locutor, y maestro de ceremonias en los teatros de variedades de Los Angeles, cumplió el pasado 2 de Julio 100 años, los cuales se celebrarán, hoy Julio 6, 2012 entre familia, amigos, compañeros de trabajo y admiradores. Rindiendole tributo, y con permiso de los realizadores, presentamos esta entrevista rgrabada en el año 2007, donde Martín habla acerca de su juventud, el comienzo de su carrera y su desarrollo en Estados Unidos.

Mr. Becerra, a native of Ocotlan, Jalisco, was born in July 2nd, 1912. His sweet tenor voice led him to debut in Guadalajara's XED in 1932 as a singer and later in 1938 in Emilio Azcarraga's acclaimed XEW. In 1942, he formed the Trio Guayacan and the duo Martin and Eloisa, which later became Martín and Malena, recording with the later over 300 songs for Peerless records, including such beloved classic as "La Casita de Paja". His repertoire of popular songs carried the sentiment and culture of his people throughout his country and abroad. He started his career as radio host in Los Angeles in 1949 at KAGH, with a daily, one hour show, La Hora de Los Angeles (Los Angeles' Hour). During that period he simultaneously acted as Master of Ceremonies at Frank Fouce's Mayan, Mason and later the Million Dollar theaters, for the which he appeared in for over thirty years. During this tenure, he presented the most recognized Mexican and Latin American performers, such as Agustin Lara, Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete, Dolores del Rio, Pedro Vargas, Maria Felix, Pedro Armendariz, Libertad LaMarque, Celia Cruz, and Julio Jaramillo, including later generations of upcoming performers. His work in radio spanned fifty-one years, broadcasting for KWKW, KALI, KROQ, and XPRS, making him a household name for various generations of listeners in Los Angeles and its surrounding areas. His pioneering work in Spanish-language radio, contribution the recording industry and performance career, together with his role at the most important Los Angeles' Spanish-language performance venues has stamped a firm print in the hearts and minds of the multitudes that enjoyed any of the facets of his work, and gained the utmost respect and appreciation for his peers in radio and the entertainment field.
