The concept of cause and effect lies at the heart of Berserk. As one sows, so one reaps. Fate is as real as the threads that make up the clothes on a man’s back, and the one spinning those threads is this guy; or rather, thing, because the Idea of Evil probably doesn’t have a gender and arguably doesn’t even exist if you read some of Miura’s interviews. The only time we see it actually interact with someone is in the infamous lost chapter of Berserk and so the only hard evidence of its existence is one panel at the end of chapter eighty two. But just because Miura retconned a chapter, doesn’t mean he retconned his true villain, because don’t get it twisted; that’s exactly what the Idea of Evil is. Its plan has been in motion for centuries, and it’s finally coming together. But what exactly is that plan? And why is the Idea the main villain? That’s what we’re here to answer, so without further ado, let’s get right to it!
