Messiah's Purpose

Title: Messiah's Purpose Speaker: David Johnston Series: The Gospel according to Mark Date: October 25, 2026 Bible: Mark 2:13-17 This sermon examines the calling of Levi the tax collector to highlight the singular, undistracted purpose of Jesus Christ to seek and save sinners. The exposition contrasts Levi's despised status and radical transformation with the self-righteous opposition of the scribes and Pharisees, illustrating that divine grace scandalizes religious legalism. By analyzing the parallels between Levi and the earlier fishermen, the message emphasizes that Christ's initiative breaks social barriers and defines the nature of true discipleship as a joyful response that spreads the gospel. The central theological theme is that Jesus remains focused on His mission to call the lost, challenging believers to reject self-righteousness and embrace the inclusive power of the preached word. https://www.sermonaudio.com/sermons/1...
