Continuing with my horribly shot, terribly narrated and poorly edited series of videos that cost you nothing, I present: N scale Kato PA1 with ESU LokSound V5 58741 decoder installed. Before you ask the logical 'why not use the 58941 V5 'Kato widebody' board, understand that with the decoder and socket, it's too tall as clearence on the PA1s is *tight*. Same goes with using a V5 micro or nano. Due to the daughter board, it adds thickness, so no matter how you machine/fit things, I couldn't get things to fit. Previously, I was relying on Select micros as they were thinner due to not having a daughter board for the plug. However, those haven't been made in 4 or 5 years now and finding them is turning into a problem. Why I didn't think to try this sooner is beyond me. :) Anywhoo...used for the install: Kato PA1 obviously- frame machined to accept 11x17 speaker and housing. ESU V5 58741 'Kato USA' sound decoder made for hood units 11x17 speaker and 3d printed housing various bits of wiring, heat shrink tubing, scrap SMLED's from light boards. File programmed to ESU V5 file S0501 Alco 244 12. While this isn't quite right, there are no surviving 244-16's anywhere that I'm aware of and this is going to be pretty darn close. I actually ended up turning the sound down as this sucker is loud. Aux1 became F headlight, Aux2 became mars light since dropping resistors were already built into the board for those outputs. CV163 changed to 2 for a Leslie A-200 horn. Need your Kato PA1 converted to ESU LokSound?
