Turn this one up! Girl at the Rock Show by Blink 182. I think we've all been there. I know I have... Still, it's a great piece of South Cali Punk. The song was released as the lead single from the album Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. The track was written by Bassist Mark Hoppus about meeting a girl at a Rock concert. Duh doh! It was inspired by the band's early days touring Punk Rock clubs in their hometown of San Diego, apparently. Like so many Blink songs, Travis Barker's Drums are worth the price of admission here. So fast. So slick.
These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that's rare. And sometimes if there is more than one guitar part, then trying to find the single good path through the tune. I complete one pass, demonstrating different Rhythm parts, styles, and techniques. There is no talking. No discussion. No note-for-note explanations. As such, for clarity, my guitar is supposed to be louder in the mix than it would ever be in a live setting. But, if you really want to hear what I hear, do what I do and put on a good pair headphones with great bass response! It's worth it.
Why this is important to Rhythm Guitar:
This one is a Jam for sure. It's what I would play if I had to do the song alone. Still, it's what I would play if the were another Guitarist anyway. But, it's structure-wise here all about two Guitars. This song is really two different tracks mixed tight together. There's the riff. Then there's the backing chords that support that riff. On the verses, I play the Guitar that is slamming the changes. The most important aspect of playing with this much gain is how to stop the chord. Each one of my power chords there is just the correct length.
All while you easily hear Tom's wicked down strokes doubling Mark's Bass.
Nice.
That's how a mix is built to sound huge.
