Tobias Philbin’s 1st Battalion, 379th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division crossed the Saar River in assault boats northwest of Saarlautern, moved overland behind the German bridge defenses, and reached the demolition controls before the bridge could be destroyed. This WWII documentary follows the surprise crossing, the engineers who cut firing wires and removed explosives and mines, the desperate effort to open the bridge to vehicles, and the days of German artillery fire, armored counterattacks, infiltration attempts, and supply problems that followed.
