You’re Kidding, Right?

JoJo Fridays are back! Steel Ball Run Episode 5 brings the second Stand fight of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 7 anime: Gyro Zeppeli and Johnny Joestar against Oyecomova, the trigger-happy assassin from Gyro’s homeland, and his clock-bomb Stand. I break down everything David Production nailed, everything they changed, and everything they cut from manga chapters 22 and 23. In this Steel Ball Run Episode 5 breakdown, I cover: • Manga vs anime: every omitted panel, every scene that got moved around, and why the anime is holding back Gyro’s past • Noriaki Sugiyama (Sasuke, Uryu Ishida) as Oyecomova, and why every villain’s aura has gone up tenfold • Panels turned into panning shots, and why “less movement” doesn’t mean “cheaper” animation • The colour swap, the Killer Queen-style clock explosion SFX, and the zombie horse turning the fight into a race to heal • The stand reveal that felt a bit rushed, plus a few off-model shots • Cool guys don’t look at explosions: the clock-mine sprint and Dance with Steel Ball Run • The climax David Pro was born to adapt, with the Spin SFX tweaked to sound like wasps • The musical references behind Oyecomova: Tito Puente’s “Oye Como Va,” Santana’s Abraxas cover, and the hidden Stand name Boku no Rhythm wo Kiitekure from JOJOVELLER • Is his face netting the American flag? Araki’s official answer on the design • A correction from last week’s video about the horse print shot • Araki’s author comment from chapter 23 (Thunderbirds fan confirmed) Steel Ball Run is ON FIRE right now, and this episode proves the adaptation is in good hands. If you enjoy JoJo anime breakdowns, manga vs anime comparisons and deep dives into Araki’s references, consider liking the video and subscribing for a new JoJo Friday every week.
