Mount Rushmore, Mount Rushmore construction, Mount Rushmore history. Four faces. Each as tall as a six-story building. No road reached the top. No power lines reached the site. No safe way for a man to even stand on that cliff, let alone carve it. But none of that was the hardest problem. The hardest problem was smaller than a bathtub: a five-foot plaster model sitting in a studio. Every inch of Washington's nose, every angle of Jefferson's brow, had to be copied from that model onto a cliff twelve times its size - with no computers, no lasers, and less than an inch of room for error. Get the math wrong once, and a president's face is gone forever. The year was 1927, and before anyone could solve that problem, they had to solve a dozen smaller ones first - starting with the fact that no power reached that stretch of the Black Hills at all. The mountain's first power source exploded. Its replacement came from a gold mine that was already going bankrupt. That alone nearly stopped the project - but it wasn't even the strangest problem the crews would face. In today's video, we look at The One Trick That Made Mount Rushmore Possible… Keep watching to see Mount Rushmore, Mount Rushmore construction, Mount Rushmore history.
