Lovely bike ride home from work. Managed to leave a little earlier than usual and I'm glad I did. Wow there's a lot of cyclists out there! Love to see it. The University Avenue bike lanes were quite busy (the car lanes, not so much), and Richmond Street was packed with cyclists. It's amazing. But Brad Bradford has decided he doesn't want any votes from the thousands and thousands of people who ride bikes in Toronto. He criticized the Adelaide and Richmond bike lanes a few weeks ago and on this day he vowed to tear out the Bloor bike lanes west of the South Kingsway if he's elected mayor. Of course, he would need the support of council to do that and he's demonstrated in his 8 years as councillor that he does not have the confidence of his colleagues, but regardless, comments like his make the city more dangerous for cyclists, even with the bike lanes in place because it emboldens the psychopaths in cars who want to run us off the road. Anyway, the ride home was nice, but really sweaty. A man asked me about my camera, and I actually misspoke. He asked if it connected to my phone and I said no because I don't usually connect it, but yet it does connect to your phone and you can control it from your phone. Then, another man commented on the shirt I was wearing. It was the shirt they gave me when I ran the Toronto Waterfront half-marathon, which was sponsored by Tata Consulting. He saw "Tata" and wanted to tell me that it means "grandmother" in Palestinian. he was very excited about it and I think he took a picture. Then he almost ran down a pedestrian who was trying to cross the road.
