Bible Discussions - Episode 115 - The Life of Christ - Part 26: Salt and Light

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told us that we are supposed to be salt and light to the world. In a world without refrigeration and electric lighting these words would have had a much greater impact. Salt was used both to preserve foods for storage and to disinfect and flavor foods that were past their "use by" date. Likewise, on a dark night in a world without electric lighting of any kind, a single oil lamp would illuminate an entire house, and a city on a hill would be visible from many miles away. The point is this: the godly actions of a single person can have an outsized impact on their community. The world can be a rotten and dark place, but your acts of love can disinfect, flavor and brighten it for everyone around you. This is another episode in the series entitled, "The Life of Christ."
