Kayaking the White Rocks & Dunluce Caves | Causeway Coast Adventure 🛶🌊

Some of the calmest conditions of the summer made for a perfect day kayaking with Richard McConnell along the stunning White Rocks on the Causeway Coast, Northern Ireland. We hugged the cliffs, weaving through caves, arches, and natural skylights that felt more like the Algarve than the North Atlantic—especially in the sunshine. It was incredibly quiet too, with hardly anyone around apart from the odd pleasure boat. One of the highlights was paddling through the legs of Elephant Rock, where things got a bit more lively as a few bigger waves rolled in once we rounded the corner—great fun and just enough excitement. We then explored the famous sea cave beneath Dunluce Castle, steeped in history and legend. It’s said that in years gone by, whiskey was smuggled in from Scotland through this cave and hauled up into the castle above—a pretty incredible thought as you sit there looking up. Continuing along the cliffs, we passed the spot where the Red Bull cliff diving event took place, staring up at the tiny ledges where those brave divers launched themselves—safe to say, we skipped that part! From there, the cliffs began to soften as we made our way toward Portballintrae Bay, arriving into a lively harbour full of families, kayaks, paddleboards, and people enjoying what felt like the best summer day of the year. Not a long trip—around 4 miles—but an absolutely fascinating one, packed with scenery, history, and adventure. Caves, cliffs, calm seas… and a coastline that never gets old.
