Larry, The Downing Street Cat - Paw-sitive News

A quick update from your correspondent, who has been recovering from a spot of minor surgery and, naturally, wishes to keep everyone properly informed. I like to call it paw-sitive news. As some of you know, I underwent a small procedure last week to have a cyst removed. I am pleased to report that I am doing very well, although I am now left with a scar and a rather disappointing absence of fur. Yesterday, feeling sufficiently restored to my usual magnificence, I ventured out onto the street to inspect the neighbourhood and check that everyone was attending to their duties. I am pleased to report that all appears to be in order. No obvious signs of incompetence, dereliction of duty or unauthorised biscuit consumption. For now, at least, I am prepared to let matters stand. A brief word, too, about Dave’s forthcoming expedition to Antarctica. He is delighted that so many of you have expressed an interest in his little adventure and has promised to send reports back through me. I shall, of course, be editing these for clarity, brevity and general readability. Someone has to distinguish the genuinely interesting bits from several pages about weather, penguins and how cold it is. I suspect there will be a great deal of all three. Incidentally, Dave doesn’t actually leave until the end of the month, so I shall have him under my feet for a little while longer yet. Finally, while convalescing over the weekend, I decided to put my time to productive use and investigate the possibility of having prints made of the paintings you voted on. A few of you have expressed an interest in buying a copy, and I thought it was worth exploring. I’ve now received some proofs, and I have to say they look rather splendid. Even if I do say so myself. The reproductions are looking good, and they appear to have captured my better angles rather successfully. It’s remarkable what a little artistic talent can achieve, particularly when the subject is so naturally photogenic. I’m now looking into how best to make the prints available. If I can work out the practicalities without becoming embroiled in an administrative nightmare, a pursuit I generally leave to humans, I’ll let you all know. In the meantime, thank you for your kind wishes and interest. I shall continue to supervise proceedings from my usual positions of authority, with occasional naps as required.
