At 7:40 a.m. on June 6, 1944, Coast Guard landing craft LCI(L)-94 ran into the obstacles off Omaha Beach. On her bridge, Chief Photographer's Mate David T. Ruley was filming in 16mm Kodachrome. Before the ship got off the beach, three of her crew were dead. This episode follows his reel: what is in the frame, what happened just outside it, and how we know.
Every frame of film in this video is real U.S. government footage from the National Archives (U.S. Coast Guard, Navy and Army Signal Corps cameramen). No AI-generated images. Narration is an AI voice (ElevenLabs). Low-resolution reels were upscaled (Real-ESRGAN, Lanczos); faded Kodachrome was color-balanced, not colorized.
