Can a paperback with a split cover and exposed spine still be saved? This damaged copy of Dead Even by Brad Meltzer had lost its cover, but the text block was still holding together. In this full beginner-friendly book rebinding process, I inspect the damage, clean and stabilize the spine, measure and cut greyboard, dry-fit the hinge gaps, and build one new hardcover from two contrasting fabrics. Then I turn the corners, case in the text block, smooth the endpapers, and press the finished book. This is a personal craft rebind, not archival conservation. If a book is rare, moldy, brittle, or has loose pages, pause and consult a professional conservator.
