At 82, Gladys Knight Faces a Painful Career Turning Point - What Stephanie Mills Says She Witnessed

At the Hollywood Bowl this July, Gladys Knight turned away from the audience in the middle of "Midnight Train to Georgia." Twelve weeks later, Stephanie Mills went on television and said what she believes she saw on tour. This is the story behind both moments, told with care. In this DAUGHTERS OF EMPIRE documentary we follow Gladys Knight from Atlanta church halls and the Pips to "Midnight Train to Georgia," the Queens tour with Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan and Stephanie Mills, and the hard questions of 2025 and 2026. We also look at how Glen Campbell and Tony Bennett faced their own final stages. Important: no diagnosis has been publicly confirmed. Claims by Gladys Knight's son Shanga Hankerson are allegations; William McDowell has denied them, and Gladys Knight has said she is healthy and happy. Stephanie Mills's remarks are her own account. Fan clips are presented as fan footage; where a date or night is unconfirmed, the narration says so.
