While the anime adaptation by Studio Deen and the Visual Novel by 7th Expansion are sublime, this is to my mind the best adaptation hands down. Ryukishi07 writing, Karin Suzuki's art...it's just all so good. I cannot recommend this manga enough. Head over to Yen Press and buy it for yourselves. Keichi Maebara moves back to the small town of Hinamizawa, an isolated Twin-Peaks esque village in the mountains and quickly befriends a quartet of girls, Rena, Mion, Rika and Satako. Slowly but surely, however, he is quickly drawn into a web of mystery, murder and supernatural horror - connected to a cancelled dam project, a number of mysterious deaths and the town's guardian deity, a malevolent being known as Oyashiro-sama. This represents the first half of Watanagashi, the second arc - part 2, part 4 overall will likely come in February 2025.
