Ida Sand Trio live at Bockenheimer Depot – 25.01.2026 There are those rare evenings where everything feels deeply connected – the music, the room, the people. The final concert of our series in cooperation with Schauspiel Frankfurt was exactly one of those moments. And when Ida Sand and her trio took us into their last notes of the night, it was clear: this closing chapter couldn’t have been more powerful. Ida Sand is one of Scandinavia’s most distinctive voices, moving effortlessly between jazz, soul and gospel. Her playing is deeply rooted in the tradition, yet always personal – warm, honest and full of depth. Whether at the piano or on vocals, she carries a rare emotional clarity that makes every song feel immediate. One of those moments came with her interpretation of “Free (I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free)”. A song so loaded with history, and yet in her hands it felt completely present – stripped down, sincere and quietly powerful. Not an attempt to outshine the original, but to inhabit it. She was joined by an extraordinary trio: Ida Sand – piano & vocals Dan Berglund – bass Per Lindvall – drums And it’s impossible not to highlight Dan Berglund here – an absolutely phenomenal bassist, whose sound has shaped modern European jazz. Known worldwide for his work with e.s.t. (Esbjörn Svensson Trio), his playing combines precision, depth and an almost orchestral sense of space. Hearing him live in this setting was something truly special. With this concert, our series with Schauspiel Frankfurt came to a close – and we couldn’t be more grateful for this collaboration and everything it made possible.
