The Ullal Jamma Masjid is a famous pilgrim centre for the Muslims. Syed Mohammed Shareefulla Madani Darga is the tomb of the soofi who came from Medina in 1569. The saint helped the poor through prayers and spiritual powers. The land for the darga was gifted by Vittarasa Vodeya. A tomb was raised over the Saint's grave after his death and the miracles continued. Thousands of people from various states visit the mosque to participate in the Urus festival which is celebrated once in every 5 years. #TheSomeshwaraTemple in Mangalore, located in Ullal, was built in the 10th century by the Alupa Dynasty and later renovated in the 15th century during the Vijayanagara Empire. Historically, it was also under the rule of the Kadambas of Banavasi and the Chola Kings. The temple, also known as Rudrapara Kshethra, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is situated near the Arabian Sea. Historical timeline 10th Century: The temple is believed to have been built by the Alupa Dynasty. 12th Century: It was under the administrative rule of the Kadambas of Banavasi and the Chola Kings of Ullal. 15th Century: The temple underwent significant renovation during the reign of the Vijayanagara King Immadi Devaraya, spearheaded by Rajaguru Sree Kriyashaktri Devavodeya, according to inscriptions found at the site. Architectural and spiritual significance The temple is also known as Shri Somanatha Temple and Rudrapara Ksehtram. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and some consider it comparable to the 12 Jyothirlinga Kshethrams. It is situated on a high elevation overlooking the Arabian Sea, offering scenic views. The complex includes a sacred pond and a statue of Lord Parashurama.
